Handmade Bonsai Pot by Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka)

This handmade bonsai pot was made at Seizan Kiln in Tokoname by Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka), 4th generation. I visited the kiln in November 2025 and had the honor of hand-selecting pots directly from what was available on site, not from a catalog.

Condition note: This pot is new and unused.

This shallow unglazed oval bonsai pot has a broad rounded rim, soft continuous wall, and low integrated feet that give it a quiet, grounded presence. The warm reddish-brown Tokoname clay shows subtle natural variation and a gently weathered look that feels refined without being formal. Its wider footprint and lower profile make it especially well suited for deciduous bonsai, broadleaf material, and more refined conifer compositions where a calm, classic oval is the right choice.

  • Artist: Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka)
  • Kiln: Seizan Kiln, Tokoname, Japan
  • Shape: Oval
  • Finish: Unglazed
  • Exterior Dimensions: 12.25" x 9" x 2.5"
  • Interior Dimensions: 10.75" x 7.5" x 1.75"
  • Condition: New

The shallow depth keeps the presentation light and elegant, while the generous oval shape gives the pot enough surface presence to anchor a more developed tree. This is a versatile Tokoname container for growers who want an understated oval with excellent proportions and everyday usability.

Each photo shown is of the actual pot you will receive.

About the artist: Reiho, also known as Katsushi Kataoka, is a 4th-generation Tokoname potter working at Seizan Kiln. His work reflects the long Tokoname tradition of practical craftsmanship paired with refined form, making his pots especially appreciated by bonsai enthusiasts who value both function and subtle beauty.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
