Vintage Unglazed Bonsai Pot from Seizan Kiln

This vintage bonsai pot came from Seizan Kiln in Tokoname, Japan. During my visit in November 2025, I was given the rare opportunity to look through different areas of the kiln and select a small number of older pots that were separate from the standard current production. It was a real honor to be allowed access to these pieces.

Unfortunately, I do not have the full history of this specific pot, but it is clearly an older, stamped, previously used example with character that reflects age and use.

This unglazed round bonsai pot has a soft, low profile with a gently rolled rim, subtle feet, and a dark weathered surface that gives it a quiet, timeworn presence. The clay shows natural patina, surface variation, and signs of prior use that add depth and authenticity rather than distraction. Its compact size and understated form make it especially suitable for shohin bonsai, small deciduous trees, compact conifers, or a more mature planting where an older pot is part of the appeal.

  • Origin: Seizan Kiln, Tokoname, Japan
  • Shape: Round
  • Finish: Unglazed
  • Exterior Dimensions: 7" x 2.25"
  • Interior Dimensions: 6.25" x 2"
  • Condition: Old, stamped, and previously used

What makes this pot especially appealing is its age and surface character. It has a softer, more lived-in feel than a new container, making it a strong choice for growers who appreciate subtle patina and the quiet beauty of older Tokoname work.

Each photo shown is of the actual pot you will receive.

Note: Because this is an older kiln-selected pot, minor signs of age, prior use, and surface irregularity are part of its character and should be expected.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
