MicroTotal is a real fertilizer, not plain “vitamin water.” Because it contains no phosphorus or potassium, it is intended to supplement rather than replace a complete primary fertilizer.
How to Use MicroTotal
- Indoor tropical bonsai: Mix 1 tablespoon per gallon of water.
- Outdoor tropical bonsai: Mix 2 tablespoons per gallon of water.
- Cold-hardy outdoor bonsai: Mix 2 tablespoons per gallon of water.
Use enough mixed solution to water the soil normally and allow the excess to drain. You do not need to pour the entire gallon into one bonsai.
Apply every 6–8 weeks while the tree is healthy and actively growing. Continue using plain water whenever the tree normally needs it.
Beginner tip: If the soil is bone dry, moisten it with plain water before applying liquid fertilizer.
When Is My Bonsai Ready to Be Fertilized?
Look for signs of active growth:
- New leaves are opening
- Shoot tips are extending
- Foliage looks healthy
- The soil drains and dries normally
Wait if the tree has just arrived, was recently repotted, is unhealthy, has an unresolved pest or watering problem, or has stopped producing new growth.

For an easy-to-follow routine, apply MicroTotal on a different day from applying or refreshing your primary fertilizer.
Can I Use It on Flowering Bonsai?
Yes. Use an appropriate flowering fertilizer such as Hanasaku as the primary fertilizer, then apply MicroTotal every 6–8 weeks for supporting nutrients.
Remember that fertilizer alone cannot create flowers. The tree also needs sufficient light, the right temperature, and species-appropriate care.
