For those without a Brazilian Rain Tree in their collection, worry not; our nursery offers a selection available for purchase, starting at $95.
The Brazilian Rain Tree (Pithecellobium tortum) stands out as an enchanting bonsai species, prized for its delicate foliage and distinct characteristics. Originating from Brazil, it has become a sought-after choice due to its aesthetic appeal and adaptability to bonsai cultivation.
Led by the esteemed Dr. Luis Carreiro, MD, a renowned expert and accomplished Brazilian Rain Tree artist, this workshop is a unique opportunity to delve into the history, pruning techniques, design principles, and proper care of your bonsai.
Dr. Carreiro, with his award-winning Brazilian Rain Tree, earned the people's choice award in 2015 and recently clinched "Best Tropical" at the 2023 Nationals in Rochester, NY.

What’s Included with the Workshop:
- Focuses on repotting your rain tree along with a little styling advice as well.
- Experienced Instructor: Lou Carreiro, MD
- Instruments: Tools, soil, and all other necessary instruments will be available for you to use.
What's NOT Included with the Workshop:
- Bonsai Tree: We have a lot of Brazilian Rain Trees for you to choose from, and they begin at $65 or you can bring your own.
- Bonsai pots: Same as the tree, participants have color and shape preferences. It’s not included but we have thousands of pots to choose from, beginning at $9.90
About the Workshop & Location:
- Attendee Cost: $75 per student + the cost of your chosen tree and pot.
- Duration: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. If you arrive a few minutes early, you'll have more time to enjoy the nursery!
- Limited Class size: 10 students.
- Location: 914 S. Main Street, Bellingham, MA, 02019. Unless otherwise specified, all students should meet in the greenhouse labeled “Workshop.” It’s right behind our retail store – you can’t miss it.
- Refreshments Available: We have refreshments available for sale (Soda, Water, snacks).
- Bathroom: There is a portable washroom at the facility.
** All sales are final. No Refunds will be given on workshops provided by New England Bonsai Gardens.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
