One-Of-A-Kind Imported Tiger Bark Ficus

In early 2023, we hard pruned (chopped) several imported S-Curved Tiger Bark Ficus - the goal is to turn them into awesome Shohin bonsai.

The trees we selected all have captivating "Tiger Bark" patterns and great trunk contours. The hard part, for a lot of beginners, is chopping the trunk. It's a lot easier to accomplish when you have experts chop them in Florida. As you can see from the pictures, the trees we selected and chopped are now pushing new growth. At the moment, we're letting new branches and foliage grow. When you receive the tree, there should be plenty of foliage and branches to work with.

About Tiger Bark Ficus Trees

The Tiger Bark Ficus bonsai tree, scientifically known as Ficus microcarpa 'tigerbark,' is a captivating and visually striking variety of bonsai. It derives its name from the distinctive and eye-catching bark pattern that resembles the stripes of a tiger. This unique feature sets it apart from other Ficus microcarpa cultivars.

The Tiger Bark Ficus bonsai showcases a rugged and gnarled trunk, with raised, rough patches of bark that range in color from pale beige to reddish-brown. These intricate patterns add a sense of age and character to the tree, making it a favorite among bonsai enthusiasts.

The foliage of the Tiger Bark Ficus consists of small, shiny, dark green leaves that provide an attractive contrast against the textured bark. These leaves create a lush canopy that can be meticulously pruned and shaped, allowing for artistic expression and refinement.

When properly cared for, the Tiger Bark Ficus can develop aerial roots, further enhancing its unique appearance. These aerial roots can be trained and incorporated into the overall design of the bonsai, creating a sense of natural elegance.

As a tropical tree, the Tiger Bark Ficus prefers warm and humid environments. It thrives in well-draining soil and requires regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Additionally, it benefits from bright, indirect light or partial shade to maintain its health and vigor.

The Tiger Bark Ficus bonsai tree is not only admired for its aesthetic appeal but also for its resilience and adaptability. With proper care and attention, this bonsai can flourish and become a stunning centerpiece, evoking a sense of ancient beauty and serenity.
