Mycorrhizal Inoculant Provides soil organisms your Bonsai Needs
Virtually all plants in nature form mycorrhizal relationships with subterranean fungi which benefit them by increasing the plants' ability to gather moisture and nutrients.
Research has shown clearly that plants growing with mycorrhiza in the soil grow more strongly, are more resistant to stress and disease, and are more tolerant of drought. The plant performs photosynthesis and other above-ground functions, and the fungi handle underground nutrition-gathering and protect the roots.
MYCONOX contains the spores of no fewer than fifteen species of mycorrhizal fungus, which guarantees that whatever species you grow, there will be at least one species of fungus that will benefit your bonsai - and your flower or vegetable garden too!
Includes nine Endo types of mycorrhizal fungi, plus an additional eight top types of Ecto mycorrhizal fungi spores. Beneficial soil organisms that attach themselves to the roots of plants. Important when you have mostly Inorganic soil.
** When to use? Every time you repot your bonsai. It can be dusted on roots, blended into soils, or worked into soil before repotting is complete. You don&rsq
Myconox Bonsai Mycorrhizal Inoculant
Root-zone support for repotting pines, conifers, and outdoor bonsai trees.
Myconox is a mycorrhizal inoculant used during repotting to help introduce beneficial fungi into the bonsai root zone. At our nursery, we use this product when repotting pines, including our imported Japanese White Pines.
If you are new to bonsai, this is not a fertilizer and it is not something every tree owner needs. Myconox is best thought of as a repotting support product, especially for trees that naturally rely on strong root and soil biology.
When Should You Use Myconox?
Use Myconox when repotting trees where mycorrhizal relationships are especially important, such as pines, conifers, and many cold hardy outdoor bonsai species.
It is especially useful when a tree is being moved into fresh bonsai soil, particularly mostly inorganic soil mixes such as akadama, pumice, lava, or similar well-draining bonsai substrates.
Best For
- Japanese White Pine
- Japanese Black Pine
- Other pine bonsai
- Spruce, hemlock, larch, and other conifers
- Many cold hardy outdoor bonsai
- Trees being repotted into mostly inorganic bonsai soil
- Imported trees or trees with heavily disturbed root systems
Do You Need This for Tropical Bonsai?
In most cases, no. If you only grow tropical bonsai such as Ficus, Dwarf Jade, Schefflera, Fukien Tea, or other indoor/tropical species, Myconox is usually not necessary.
For tropical bonsai, proper watering, good soil, light, warmth, and a regular fertilizer program are usually much more important than adding a mycorrhizal inoculant.
Why Bonsai Growers Use Mycorrhizae
In nature, many trees form relationships with beneficial fungi in the soil. These fungi live around or with the roots and can help the tree access moisture and nutrients more efficiently.
In bonsai, this matters most during repotting because old soil is removed, roots are disturbed, and the tree is placed into a fresh soil environment. Myconox helps add beneficial fungal spores back into the root zone where they can come into contact with the roots.
How to Use
Use Myconox during repotting. A small amount goes a long way.
- Sprinkle approximately 1/4 tablespoon directly onto damp roots or the root ball before repotting.
- You can also work a small amount into the soil near the root zone before the repot is complete.
- For best results, apply it where it will make contact with roots, not simply on top of dry soil.
- Water the tree thoroughly after repotting.
Important Notes
- Myconox is not a replacement for fertilizer.
- It is most useful during repotting, not as a routine top-dressing.
- Use it sparingly. More is not necessarily better.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
