One-Of-A-Kind Gerald Rainville Grown Kishu Shimpaku
Due to USDA regulations, we cannot ship Junipers to California.
This Gerald Rainville grown Kishu Shimpaku is a stunning example of natural artistry, showcasing an elegant curved trunk with striking deadwood features. The live vein twists gracefully alongside the aged bark, creating dramatic contrast and adding visual depth that immediately draws the eye.
First styled by Peter Olson on August 15, 2025, the tree now has its primary structure defined, with branching that highlights its movement and trunk line. Its compact, bright green Kishu foliage pads are already beginning to frame the composition beautifully, setting the stage for refined styling in the years ahead.
At 35+ years old, this pre-bonsai has the maturity and presence that only decades of patient cultivation can provide. Its proportions—18” tall with a 16” spread in a 9.5” mica training pot—make it both powerful and graceful, with a form that will only improve as it matures.
This tree is part of a very limited release, and pictures were taken to record its “before” & current state. Once sold or pulled for additional refinement, it will no longer be available.

About Gerald Rainville
Gerald Rainville was a legendary Canadian bonsai grower, best known for his stunning Kishu Shimpaku and Japanese Black Pines. Starting in the late 1980s, Gerald spent nearly four decades developing trees with patience and precision, often incorporating traditional Japanese methods.
His trees are instantly recognizable for their natural movement, aged trunks, and refined deadwood. He leaves behind a lasting legacy—and owning one of his trees is like holding a living piece of North American bonsai history.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
