Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai with a Dramatic Twisting Trunk
Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.
This is the exact tree shown in the photographs.
This one is all about the trunk. It twists hard from the base all the way into the canopy, with every bend giving you something different to look at. A wide strip of deadwood follows the movement and makes the trunk look even more dramatic.
Peter Olson styled the tree and did a nice job arranging the branches around the trunk instead of hiding it. The foliage moves in both directions and gives the tree a broad 17-inch spread. There is plenty of healthy growth for continued pad development and refinement.
The tree measures 15 inches from the table to the apex and is planted in a 10-inch rectangular ceramic pot. It already has a strong design, but there is still room for its next owner to tighten the foliage and continue developing the pads over time.

Care and Continued Refinement
Itoigawa junipers should be grown outdoors with plenty of sunlight and good airflow. Water thoroughly when the soil begins to approach dryness, but do not allow the root ball to dry out completely. The tree is currently wired, so the wire should be checked regularly and removed before it begins to mark the branches.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
