An Artist-Styled Needle Juniper with Serious Character
Due to USDA regulations, we cannot ship Junipers to California.
This is a fantastic Needle Juniper with a history behind it. I acquired the tree several years ago, when it had already been styled by Bjorn. More recently, Peter Olson restyled it, refining the branch structure and opening the tree so its powerful trunk movement can be fully appreciated.
Needle Juniper, known botanically as Juniperus rigida, is an East Asian evergreen with stiff, finely textured needles. The foliage ranges from green to bluish green and creates a very different look from the softer, scale-like foliage found on many other junipers. It gives the tree a rugged appearance that works especially well with twisting trunks, aged bark and deadwood.
This tree has an expressive trunk that changes direction as it rises, with plenty of texture and visible age. The recently wired branches create an open framework with defined layers, while leaving room for the foliage pads to fill in and mature. It already has the presence of an established bonsai and should become even better as the current styling develops.
Artist History
The tree had previously been styled by Bjorn before coming into my collection. Its most recent restyling was completed by Peter Olson. The current wire and branch placement are part of that recent work and should be monitored as the tree grows.
Repotting History
This Needle Juniper was repotted in spring 2023. It may enjoy a new pair of shoes in spring 2027, but the soil is still accepting water and draining freely. As always, the decision to repot should be based on the condition of the roots and soil rather than the calendar alone.

Please Note
This is an outdoor tree and must be grown outdoors. The styling wire should be checked regularly and removed before it begins cutting into the branches. All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
